New media society was founded in summer 2014 in Tehran to act as a hub and mediator for several emerging project spaces across the country. The main focus is on archiving and facilitating projects related to new media arts. This is to be done by organizing talks, workshops, publications, and events such as presentations, symposiums, and exhibitions. The long term goal is to publish, translate, and produce relative materials as well as archiving and public outreach to provide the missing platform for new media’s ever-growing scene in Iran. Since New Media Society was founded, Has held more than 100 sessions in collaboration with various initiatives and art spaces on various themes and topics: New Media Art History, Sociology, and art, Animation, Architecture, photography, music and sound art, archive, experimental film, and Digital art. It has also organized workshops on interactive art, programming, and art in public space.
New Media Projects is located in downtown Tehran acts as a meeting point for artists, researchers, professionals, and enthusiasts who encourage this approach. It provides a research and study room with facilities such as Wi-Fi-connected working space, library on Media arts, international and Iranian books, catalogs, and journals. It is also the home of Parking Video Library, an on-going project combining few existing archives on video, sound, and film in the country, by reindexing and re-organizing the archives, making it presentable to a wider public. These collections are presented by curating various programs and open studios.
New Media Projects is one of the partners of Limited Access Festival for moving images, sound, and performance.
Other activities such as biweekly film and animation screening, School of moving images, critique sessions, and reading sessions are happening in collaboration with various initiatives in the space and across the country.
