Soanyway is an independent online magazine, providing a platform for work that tells stories using any combination of words, images and sounds. The title ‘soanyway’ is an expression used in daily speech to refocus after digression, or as a means of changing or avoiding a subject. The conclusive ‘so’ merged with the ‘anyway’ of alternation suggests a diversity of possible stories in which interdisciplinary boundaries are crossed. This allows these apparent digressions to flow as multi-layered narrative. We interpret story broadly, considering it in relation to fact and fiction, narration or implication, and structure or a lack of it. We also regard most history, theory and critique as the telling of stories about stories. KuBa: kulturbahnhof is an independent non-profit art project. With our Artist in Residence program, we want to create a specific space for inspiration, dialogue and cooperation, open to the challenges of our time. KuBa: kulturbahnhof is located on the site of a former train station in the town of Klein Warnow (Brandenburg), on the Berlin-Hamburg railway. The residency program offers artists, writers and cultural scientists a place to work, create and experiment. The interaction with this unique location is an essential element of the project. The artistic directors of KuBa: kulturbahnhof are Sharon Horodi and Cheb Mika Kammerer. The two are artists, active in the field of video, photography, performance-art and creative writing. Both have many years of experience in curating exhibitions and artistic events, community based art projects and transcultural exchange programs. Vision: A train station is a space comprised of motion and of emotions, arrivals and farewells, a place of joy and longing. Like art, the station forms the thin line between the private and public spheres. Our vision is to create within this space a place that inspires one’s own work, and invites artists to interact with one another and the place itself. KuBa – Art Residency […]

ART RESIDENCY & EDUCATION FOR ARTISTS Snehta is a non-for-profit organisation that promotes and facilitates local and international artists through its residency, exhibitions and educational programmes in Kypseli, Athens. For the residency artists are selected through an open call who then spend two months researching in Athens under the guidance of the residency team and an established Athens based curator. Snehta also organizes a series of exhibitions and talks in response to topics that critically engage with Athens’ unique identity as a historical and social center. The programme is staffed by established Athens based artists with a strong and living artistic practice. SNEHTA – ATHENS IN REVERSE Snehta stands for the name of the City of Athens written in reverse. This name metaphorically suggests that the artists involved are to rediscover Athens by reading and translating it alternatively, observing and using the City’s local, social and cultural dynamics. Our work ethos is to reinforce participating artists to bring a renewed awareness of Athens through the works produced, exhibitions and events. These should relate to and critically stimulate Hellenic, inter-European […]

WPA supports artist-driven projects, advocacy, and dialogue so that artists can live, work and flourish. WPA invites artists to conceive of programs that showcase the work or ideas of other artists (or creative thinkers, scholars, activists, etc.) and then supports them with money, introductions/connections, idea-development, planning & production, communications, marketing and promotion. In our view, artist-driven programming combines the best of two existing models—“artist-run” and “artist-centered”. It is closer in intent to the former than the latter because artists are curating everything—exhibitions, performances, talks, workshops, screenings, platforms, etc. Yet it provides a degree of professional support and organizational stability that an “artist-run” organization might not.

Small presses, university journals, and literary magazines have long provided publication opportunities to visual artists for their cover and editorial images. Their traditional freedom from advertiser control has allowed them to provide a home to work that is challenging or confrontational. Although they welcome visual art, such publications’ primary modus is text and the imagery is often sprinkled among the stories, several artists are typically included in a single issue, and the number of works from any one artist is sometimes quite limited. Non-profit Dek Unu Magazine focuses on the visual, providing space for one artist at a time to show adventurous work in depth, themed and curated by the artist alone. During the publication month, each featured artist is promoted extensively on web and social media.

I started painting early, I do not remember age, but discovering as a child distant drawings and scribbles on the walls of my parents’ workshop. Then, I was drawing for hours on my parents’ sewing machines while they worked. I did it for pleasure and because my weak health did not allow me to run around with other children. Then they sent me to a teacher and I met the oil painting, the models, and the museums and galleries, as well as the concerts, since it was part of my teacher’s demands. As a teenager I embarked on painting as an adventure, which led me to discover other active artists, to live together in the San Telmo Fair. The Constructivism was a solid foundation for walking the path of Painting, giving a solid approach towards mural painting & Applied Art. With the decades this form of work received new names as Urban Art, and many times in fusion with graffiti artists. I believe that the artist’s task is to give a testimony of his time and to tell something individual and important of one: to make a place on earth and relate something unique and relevant. When I have the […]
