Since 2000 FILE is a non-profit cultural organization that has been promoting exhibitions, workshops and gatherings that seek to investigate the appropriations of the technologic media in artistic accomplishments. With annual exhibitions in São, in addition to participation in national and international events, FILE is the biggest electronic art event in Latin America. In 2011 Yessíca Torres de Marín co-opened H Gallery + Studios in Ventura, California. Tangent Projects

Tangent Projects is a curatorial initiative set up to work with national and international emerging and mid-career artists on site responsive exhibitions and projects. With a desire to add multiplicity to the current art archetype, Tangent Projects endeavors to showcase exemplary works in a variety of different media and platforms – including books, exhibitions, performance and online commissions. Our intent is to invite artists to explore “tangents” or diversions within their practice. The Concern Newsstand has such a name because of a concern that the world is falling to distracted mindlessness and that we’re all reading from physical, paper objects less and less. A ‘concern’ is also the name of a ‘business’. The Chapel Hill / Carrboro, NC area no longer has m/any used book or magazine stores. The Newsstand is offering this service to the community. It is also a venue for local artists & artists from beyond to sell their printed materials & limited edition products. Housed in a gallery & among artist studios, it is a meeting spot & hang out place. The curated focus is to expand one’s mind in some way beyond the mundane via artist books, comics, art books, magazines, small press publishers, used books, vintage magazines & more. Overnight Projects

Overnight Projects is an artist-run, curatorial concept steered by artists and creative practitioners whose work shows critical observation and purpose. We consider projects with artists a partnership of shared labor, driven by curiosity, experimentation, and a commitment to connection and conversation. Founded in 2015 and directed by Abbey Meaker with support from Meara McGinniss, Rachel Jones, and a small group of invaluable volunteers, we organize experiential installations and idea-driven artworks and events in revolving locations, including transitional spaces and traditional gallery settings. Notable past sites include an 1800s orphanage, a defunct coal-plant, a 1950s lakeside motel, and a cornfield on the cusp of reverting back to a wetland. Art is one of few remaining platforms where critical engagement can take place and (hopefully) shift perception and action in meaningful ways. The unique and inventive expression of ideas through art offers a chance and hope for a more inclusive, compassionate, and intelligent world. That is what we are continually working for.

Unit 1 Gallery | Workshop is Workshop Foundation’s exhibition and residency space in London. It supports a diverse range of emerging and mid-career contemporary artists by providing them with space and time to develop their practice, championing principles of integrity and rigour. Through its residency programmes and exhibitions, it gives artists, curators and theorists a platform to present work and share ideas as well as creating an environment for freethinking and exchange. The Foundation seeks to progress artists’ careers and connect them to the public. It has now organized more than 25 exhibitions with over 100 artists and curators. masc foundation 39 dada are an artist group (Roland Schütz – Kurt Mayr – Richard Schütz – Arno Schmid †2016) which works intensively, since its opening in June 1999, on the integration of fine arts and their various expressions. Our artist run spaces were located vis a vis at grundsteingasse. We were founded as artistic counterparts in this street in Vienna Ottakring. Since the death of Arno Schmid (39dada) in June 2016 the art project is continued by masc foundation. For a long time, the Brunnenviertel, the area around the Viennese Brunnenmarkt in the 16th district, has been an ideal place of work and living for many artists. The artists of our association have come together here to find common possibilities of artistic expression and presentation. Hotel Infinity is an international artist-run initiative and nomadic collective founded by the artist, sculptor Minna Kangasmaa in 2015. The main objective of Hotel Infinity is cooperation with international artists and art operatives who are intensively and actively interested in forming an artistic collective. The purpose is to use the collective as a tool for promoting international artistic cooperation in the field of contemporary art. The idea of Hotel Infinity is to deconstruct the logic of a centre and periphery, and to replace it with the logic of a network. Hotel Infinity does not have just one centre or location. Instead it has a network that aims at passing geographical borders and acting as an international nomadic collective. As in hotels in general, in Hotel Infinity people come and go, but during their visit they become a part of it and modify the content of it. Founded in 1976, Touchstone Gallery is located in a custom-built street-level space at 901 New York Avenue NW, Washington, DC. PADA is an artist led, not for profit, arts association, unique in its support to artists. As a cultural resource, PADA promotes interaction between national and international artists, the local community and surrounding region. Set in a derelict industrial park with a history dating back to 1885, PADA offers artists time and space to develop their practice through the exploration of technique and process. PADA is located in the picturesque town of Barreiro, a medium-sized city on the South Bank of the River Tagus (20 minutes from Lisbon by ferry). Barreiro was the main industrial city in Portugal and Spain until 1970 and is known for its political and industrial history. Venue Art Aia – La Dolce Berlin is located in the site of an old Späti in the area of Wedding. The venue has an exhibiting room with a shop window and a guest room to accommodate the visiting artist while working on opening their art shows. Art Aia – Creatives / In / Residence is an international art residency located near the comune of Sesto al Reghena in the north-eastern Italian region Friuli-Venezia Giulia. window is a site-specific, minimalist exhibition space envisioned as a platform for contemporary image makers who engage with issues of re-production and re-presentation within their practice via political, philosophical, theoretical, poetic and/or process-based frameworks. window welcomes two-dimensional printable works that repurpose found or archival source materials, challenge notions of originality and authenticity, stimulate perceptual phenomena through reiteration or duplication, implement re-photography as a critical component, or embrace re-production as essential to the work. window installs 4-6 new artworks per year, designed exclusively for the space by the artist, or in collaboration with the curator. The site consists of a 58 in x 51.5 in surface area of a downtown Asheville, North Carolina storefront with ample visibility to the passing public. window invites artists to realize new works, designed and conceptualized to complement the discourse and format of the site, and also encourages the re-contextualization of pre-existing works. Mission Statement window values original objects and aesthetic precision, but does not find these aspects essential to every viewing experience. window promotes the exchange of ideas and dialogue through engagement with visual representation. window does not fetishize process or material and disavows the treatment of artworks as precious and unique. window does not promote commerce. window celebrates re-production.

One Stay, One Art PARADISE AIR is an artist-in-residence program located in Matsudo, Chiba Prefecture, conveniently close to yet comfortably removed from the bustle of central Tokyo. The program is held on the vacant floors of a former hotel, a setting afforded to us by the Rakuen pachinko parlor (a pinball-gambling establishment) that occupies the bottom floors of this building owned by Hamatomo Corporation. We launched the program in 2013, naming ourselves PARADISE AIR after this “Rakuen” – “paradise” in English – combined with “AIR,” the acronym for “artist-in-residence.” Artist-in-residence programs provide artists a place to stay and create art for a given period, supporting their travel and artistic activities. Situated along the old Mito Road, Matsudo thrived during the Edo Period (1603–1868) as one of the route’s “post towns”– stop-off points punctuating major roads – where travelers would stay on their journey between Edo (present-day Tokyo) and Mito. Countless travelers came and went past where Matsudo station stands today, including artists – poets, painters, calligraphers and the like – who would sometimes leave pieces of their own art as payment for lodging. “Hlebzawod” art space was created on abandoned factory territory in the summer of 2016. Its mission is educational activity in contemporary art. Also combined with the formation of the exhibiting activity in Ukraine, promotion of contemporary art, as a necessity of modern retell of our cultural and historical content. It contains programs of familiarization of audience with the tendencies of Ukrainian contemporary art, and the disclosure of its social and cultural significance, formation of audience’s outlook and tastes, the search and help in growing of young talents.

Kalashnikovv Gallery

The Kalashnikovv Gallery was established in 2013 by long term collaborators M.J Turpin and Matthew Dean Dowdle out of frustration with the current South African Contemporary Art world and by extension, the prevailing “white cube” gallery discourse.They chose to create a hybrid space, bouncing to-and-fro between an independent artist run space, project space and commercial gallery space. Another key factor in the gallery’s inception was the decision not to compartmentalize creativity by showing art that is solely validated through academic practice and saleability. the Kalashnikovv ethos will forever champion the progressive alternative, the “outsider”, the artist as curator and the independent artist in all their creative guises and manifestations. Their existence is an endeavor to change perceptions around art, to move the industry forward as a whole, to be a catalyst for change and to make art accessible for all.
