HYPER FORM International 3D Modeling Competition | Deadline 5th of November 2020
1st Prize: 500€ | 2nd Prize: 250€ | 3rd Prize: 150€
LAPSUS Art Space and Laboratory is launching an International Abstract 3D-printable Sculpture Competition for artists under 35 in order to stimulate creativity in a digitized reality. The theme is Hyper Form, alluding to nonphysical and dynamic space, based on the simultaneity of plans and events in hyperreality – a dimension where the real and the fictional blend, or, as described by Jean Baudrillard “the generation by models of a real without origin or reality”.
In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic the digitized world becomes the world of communication, while sculpture, one of the most earthly of the arts, has the challenge to become fluid by digitization. Our open call wants to give a chance to young artists, 3D modelers, art and design students around the world to express their visions of hyperreality, seeing it both as a means and as a space to work within. The sculpture should function both as something generated and imagined in hyperspace, between the digital and the real – an object which becomes real only by way of its contradictions.
Send your sculptures as .obj or .stl files (maximum 100 Mb) until 05.11.2020 using a transfer link to [email protected]. We require you attach the following information:
a title for your artwork
a short description or what inspired your sculpture
a link to your previous projects/portfolio
a short artist bio
Prizes and exhibition
Ten selected sculptures will be 3D printed and exhibited between 14-31 November in Lapsus, in Timișoara. The artworks and their creators will be featured on our website lapsus.xyz and we will award one prize of 500 euro and two others of 250 and 150 euros.
Criteria of selection
We welcome entries that recreate a Hyper Form, objects which transmit the idea of digitized physicality, maybe abstract, maybe parametric, maybe fluid. Also, we will appreciate the sculptures that are planned and created so that they can be 3D printed. We will print the sculptures here with sapphire blue filament, their volume should not exceed 18x18x18 cm.
Software and formats
We value originality and vision above all, that is why the participants can use any professional software like Rhinoceros Grasshopper, ZBrush, Blender, SketchUp but also simple apps like tinkercad.com, smartphone apps (Sculpt+), or they can 3D scan and modify a real object.
Jury
The jury will be composed of Alex Boca (Lapsus founder and curator), Mihai Drăgan (hacker / co-founder Plan Zero), Silvia Fierăscu (network scientist) and Paul Vladimir Văleanu (writer and curator).
