the rabbit hole is back from our international residency program in naples, and opens the hatch in the heart of london.

the global residency: “the art of remembering”

“the hatch” has been set up as a response to the high demand and volume of applications for the rabbit hole international residency program “the art of remembering” which was held in naples, italy sept 21-oct 5, 2021, where the rabbit hole method was interrogated by 10 international artists.

spend up to 3 weeks in the magical loft of the rabbit hole’s headquarters, burrowed in one of london’s most inspiring and serene enclaves, directly on the regent’s canal, yet located in the heart of central london.

over the past 12 years, the hatch has moved from new york city, to barcelona, to now london: this time to immerse in london’s global stage of artistic communities, and cultural programming.

“the hatch” provides a key into the creative rabbit holes of London, and direct connections with the city’s artistic communities, venues, and cultural spaces.

about the rabbit hole:

founded in 2008 in new york city, the rabbit hole is a creative community numbering 3000+ in 56 countries. the residency program that bases its principals on deconstructing creative processes while establishing a new methodology called the rabbit hole method.™

the rabbit hole method™ is a process of inquiry developed by the collective, that extracts and distills from contemporary artistic practises, philosophy, mysticism, mathematics and dance. it includes the teaching of hazrat inayat khan, farid ud-din attar, jorge luis borges, alejandro jodorowsky, lewis carroll, among others.

who can apply:

artists, curators, writers, poets, researchers, sound artists, performers, photographers, filmmakers, digital artists, from all backgrounds are invited to the open call.
we invite the curious minded who have a particular interest in unraveling processes around deconstruction through mediums such a poetry, research, theatre and performance.

program elements:

1 / creative retreat
located directly on the regent’s canal, the hatch is a space for creative retreat, set up as a contemplative encounter and reflective residency focusing on independent research. rather than public happenings similar to other residencies, this is specific to the intimacy of a home environment.

2 / individually tailored + curated stay

the selected hatch resident will work with the rabbit hole to create a unique program according to the artist’s interests, with direct contacts with mentors from music, theatre, dance and visual art disciplines including: gallery opening invites, art talks, venue introductory meetings, meetings with galerists, studio visits, workshops, art tours, and an artist dinner held at the hatch, will be arranged.

3 / introduction to the rabbit hole method

the resident will be mentored with their proposed project, and introduced to the trademarked creative process, “the rabbit hole method” see below

4 / networking + presentation of the work

the space, theatrically designed, is a playground to hold salons, dinner gatherings and a final presentation of work, or workshop, should the artist choose to do so.

5 / membership into the global community

at the completion of the residency, the resident’s experience and any conclusive work will be communicated through the rabbit hole’s online global channels. if applicable, a digital format of the final work will be shared. the resident will be invited to become an official member of the rabbit hole.

6/ london focus

at the epicentre of cultural transmissions, albeit established, london is also raw. attracting a constantly evolving stream of inquisitive minds and creative talent, london is a global stage where artists, curators, performers and producers spark relationships, create, produce and learn.

house rules:

the hatch is a tranquil place and should remain so, good care and consideration of the space, objects within the space, and other people living in the space is a requirement of your stay.

you agree to keep shared and private spaces of the house clean and respected.

the artist is responsible for their own food.

academic advisory and judging panel:

the rabbit hole is under the academic advisory of mit senselab, teatro de los sentidos, vanderbilt university. each application will be assessed by our academic board of advisors.
