Mothership NYC is a combined live-work space and presentation arena for international artists across multiple disciplines in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn, NYC. Our converted industrial loft has three cabins for permanent crew members (all 30+ years-old female creatives) and two spaces for shorter-term visitors. As of December 2016, one of the short-term options is a PRIVATE LIVE-WORK SPACE for rotating Artists-in-Residence, which is available for periods from 1 to 3 months for $1550/month: a spacious, light-filled and high-ceilinged room divided into two separate sections. The living area has a loft bed, clothing rack, dresser, and a small sitting area. The studio has a desk, a large table, and empty walls to work on. There is an easel, too, as well as a great bike you get to use (please see images in second slide show at http://www.mothership.nyc/artist-residency/). Snehta launches its new summer program of residencies and invites 3 (three) contemporary artists for the summer period of 2019 to live and work in the vibrant city of Athens during the months of July and August. Artists can choose to work in Snehta for July or August 2019 or for both months. Snehta resources’ such as work-spaces, wood work tools, as well as program specific activities are offered to the residents for the duration of their residency. Thesis at ALN is a new program led by David Gersten, to give artists, makers and thinkers of any discipline the time and space to explore their questions and to develop their personal works. The program includes a regular schedule of, one on one, studio visits with David, ALN Fellows and Visiting Artists, as well as, project-related explorations and events. Works can be pursued independently or in collaboration. The hope is that an organic environment emerges where people and their works can listen to one another. Revolution has many possible interpretations – it can signify a dramatic social, economic, political or scientific change, many of its meanings today originate with the title of Copernicus’, (1543) book: “On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres.” Revolution is placed as an invitation towards the scale, scope, depth and breadth of each individual’s curiosities, questions, explorations and works, it contains a gesture of multiple possibilities ‘turns’ to be discovered, at once, beyond us, around us and within us. Phoenix Athens launches a new light residency programme for artists who wish to live in Athens. The light residency coincides with the Villa Exarcheia and is designed to help artists to develop their practice and conduct research in Athens. Living accommodation and use of a painting and sculpture workshop facility is provided for up to two months.
In its third year, Water Tower Artist Residency is seeking submissions from national and international artists and artist collectives. This year, the residency will center on artists who use creative approaches towards communal engagement, aesthetics and social justice, alternative and gift economies, art and ecology, caregiving, contemporary philosophies of living and ‘liveness’, and questions of displacement and belonging.
SELF CULTIVATION AND CREATIVE PRACTICE | a three day residential workshop in West Dorset, UK | 24-27 August
This workshop will be an intensive introduction to a number of powerful approaches to self cultivation and creative analysis. It will equip you with the requisite tools to create a rooted personal vision and to fulfil that vision within your chosen medium – be it an artistic project, a creative practice or indeed any part of your life. The three day, fully catered residency will take place at a self-sustaining artists’ retreat and smallholding set within 40 acres of ancient woods and farmland close to the West Dorset coast. During three days of workshops, games, seminars and rigorous bodywork, teacher and maker Ryan Kiggell will offer a comprehensive introduction to a range of approaches that will lead the participants into this creative process. Applying the techniques to their lives and work, participants will learn to unlock deeper states of insight, presence and spontaneity, galvanise their imagination and make work that is intimately connected to living sources of inspiration. The residency is characterised by its search for new connections, exchange and learning amongst artists. Researchers, curators, and art critics are also welcome to apply. Open to emerging and established artists.
FARM Studio International Artist Residency’s aim is to provide a rural, community-based open platform where creativity can unfold. Residents stay and create in a unique atmosphere and entirely new environment where they can develop their artwork free from accustomed distractions. Relationships form between the artists coming from different geographical locations and varied social, religious and cultural backgrounds. Here, collaborations and experimentation is encouraged. Many exciting exchanges and dialogues among artists take place. Farm Studio also promotes and celebrates the local community’s artistic and cultural identity while also introducing art and culture of others (Indian and International guests) back to the community. This intercultural exchange broadens everyone’s experiences and fosters art appreciation.
