Two Queens is an artist-run gallery and studios situated in Leicester’s Cultural Quarter. With the ambition of providing a centre for experimental modes of arts production, exhibition and exchange, Two Queens is dedicated to establishing an agenda for new activity in the city and across the region. We want to invest our energies into collaborations with new institutions and individuals from outside of Leicester whilst also assisting in the development of artists working within the city. Two Queens was established in 2011 by recent graduates from De Montfort and Loughborough Universities, and has been programming regular exhibitions and events since March 2012.

Greylight Projects is an independent artist run organization based in Brussels (BE) and in Hoensbroek (NL). It has been created in 2009 in Hoensbroek, and a space was opened in Brussels in 2013. Greylight Projects focuses on supporting artists in their researches and practices by facilitating, producing, or organizing events. In Hoensbroek (NL), a suburb of Heerlen in the south of The Netherlands, Greylight Projects offers a place to live and work to selected artists for short, mid or long term residencies. In parallel, every few months an artist is invited for a (site-)specific presentation in the project-space: a large scale display in the storefront and 3 flags poles in front of the former city hall of Hoensbroek, visible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from public space. In Brussels (BE), Greylight Projects is situated in the north part of the town, close to Botanique in the municipality of Sint-Joost-ten-Node. Since more than 3 years, Greylight Projects is inviting international artists to share their work with the public through different formats: solo or group shows, (sound) perfomances, screenings, concerts, talks, open studios, or billboard posters outside. With gallery spaces in the basement, the chapel and 14 studios, Greylight Projects […]

Kotti-Shop: The Kotti-Shop is an experimental non-profit art and project space, which has been located on the ground floor of the Neue Kreuzberger Zentrum, directly at Kottbusser Tor, since 2008. For ten years now, it has been a platform for Berlin-based and international artists to play and experiment. Exhibitions take place regularly in the Kotti-Shop, as well as performances, zine and book launches, experimental readings, concerts and film screenings. Over the years, events series have also become established in the Kotti-Shop, such as the “Sentimental Punk” format, where, every month since 2015, a compilation of films by experimental filmmakers has been shown, reinterpreted by two sound artists through improvisation. In addition to its distinctive events culture, the Kotti-Shop regularly collaborates with other art and cultural institutions and festivals, and makes its premises available for this purpose. In the past, this has included the drawing festival Big Draw (2012/2013), the House of World Cultures (Wir wohnen, wie wir wollen/We decide how we reside, 2015) and the radio project “Kotti.FM” (2016), in which the Kotti-Shop, together with the artist’s radio reboot.FM, Wassertormedien, Wearebornfree and WestGermany continuously broadcast on one frequency for one month. The Kotti-Shop also provides a platform for art projects […]

ACOSS (Art Center of Social Studies) artist-in-residence program, established in 2006, needs more space to continue to develop its international artistic network and an alternative art school for the community. ACOSS serves as a platform for national and international artists interested in a studio exchange to practice their art and become immersed in our collaborative community art-related initiatives, which highlight the concept of creativity without borders towards social change. The aim of ACOSS is to support the development of contemporary creativity and to assist local Armenian and international artists and scholars to organize exhibitions, conferences, research projects, seminars, and workshops concerning local art and current political and social situations. Our artist-in-residence program is a platform/meeting point where local and international artists and art professionals connect, develop links, and initiate cross border cultural exchange projects. Since 2006, ACOSS AIR has welcomed over 200 international artists and guests from 40 countries. The ACOSS artist residency program is a long term social practice for me, a piece of my art, where my friends, the community where I am based, and my family are all involved. We meet at an intersection of Armenian hospitality and contemporary art. Here, we regularly collaborate with organizations, internationally to provide cultural exchange opportunities, and locally to develop socially engaged projects […]

The Institut für Alles Mögliche is an artistic project that, by using experimental means, sets about questioning, scrutinising and probing the institutionalisation and presentation of contemporary art. To this end project spaces are opened, events developed and various artistic practices tried out. These, mostly playful experiments deal with interrogations of the ‘art space’, the operatings of the ‘project space’ and ‘exhibiting’ often in an ironic manner. The central concept is to develop spaces of possibility in which exchange and experiences can take place and space for artistic activity can come in to being. The project can be understood as an organism, as an artistic attempt to find niches and to implant a non-commercial program into the commercial structure of the municipal sphere. It is intended to formulate a notion, a proposal, an approach on how artistic collaborations, collective learning and cohabitation can be constructed. The project tries to create an alternative, which opposes the economic utilisation of art, the artistic pressure to produce and increasing standardisation. Projects that are realized within the Institut are non–commercial and not market-orientated. We place great value on artistic practices and forms of expression that take place beyond art fairs and galleries. During our […]

“Axel Obiger” opened in September 2009 at Brunnenstraße 29 in Berlin Mitte as space for contemporary art. In addition to the 10 double- shows and 2 curated group shows a year, Axel Obiger presents a supporting program of performances, readings, discussions and artist talks. One key aspect is the collaboration with guest artists, which are staged in a open form of dialog with one artist from the gallery. In this manner the several artistic context and ways to work are elucidated in order to intensify the exchange between different positions. Axel Obiger is tracing scientific discourses in our group shows and open-ended experiments – issues f.e.: Burn Out, sociological icons in body and language, consumption, authorship and identity. Axel Obiger exclusively shows contemporary work.

Founded in 2009, Durden and Ray is comprised of 24 artist/curators who work together to create exhibition opportunities at their downtown Los Angeles gallery as well as in concert with artist groups and gallery spaces around the world. Durden and Ray concentrates on small, tightly curated group shows at the gallery, organized by the members, and hosts international artists as part of a commitment to global exchange and alternative networks. The Durden and Ray model expressly overlaps multiple strategies, including the commercial potential and visual identity of a gallery, the democratic structure of an artist group, the potential to create collaborative works of art in the manner of a collective, and the shared fiscal support of its programs by group members and project partners similar to a nonprofit organization. Durden and Ray is committed both to individual praxis and to shared aims of curatorial experimentation, visual research, and artistic exchange with international partners.

DAS ESSZIMMER (engl.: the dining room) was founded in 2011 as a non-profit, artist run art space. In favour of a broad array of artistic positions the gallery programme explicitely renounces a particular conceptual focus based on media, though there is a slight bias towards installations. DAS ESSZIMMER is dedicated to support innovative, emerging artists. The art space is regularly involved in curatorial and collaborative projects, developing new formats. Exhibited artists are included in significant institutional collections.
