Im_flieger is a project by artists for artists: a research facility and developmental lab. Im_flieger operates as an independent association and is located in Vienna. Im_flieger creates since the year 2000 a free public space for dance, performance and related art forms, enabling contemporary artistic publication, discourse, research, creation, artists mobility, exchange and the growing necessity of fostering links between artists, cultural actors and creative spaces through local, national and international networking. Dance/Performance is seen in a wider scope, encompassing the broader sense of the term, which focuses on the whole process of artistic creation as a potential and medium of communication. Im_flieger supports artists actively in developing new working concepts and structures of artistic cooperation, moreover, the creation and presentation of performance art is facilitated without the pressure of common event and production practice. Im_flieger is an emancipatory model that requires awareness about the links of aesthetic, political and social perspectives, as well as an understanding about the field of tension they create in the artistic production.

The Kulturdrogerie association, located in a former drugstore on Gentzgasse 86-88 in Vienna’s 18th district, Währing, makes studio space, production space, and exhibition and presentation area available to selected, invited artists. The association was founded in 2005 by sculptors Markus Hiesleitner and Franz Tišek. Kulturdrogerie is an experimental art space that functions as an ideational testing ground, and provides artists with support and space that they otherwise would not have at their disposal to realize their projects. The Kulturdrogerie thus views its purpose as a place of production and exhibition for contemporary young art.

The REAKTOR is a privately run transdisciplinary art institution based in Vienna that opened in February 2018 on the premises of what was once the Grand Etablissement Gschwandner. Here, on a total surface area of 1,200 m2, various forms of artistic expression are brought together and made accessible to the public. The focus is on film, space-defining art and music theatre, new music, jazz and experimental interpretations of contemporary music. The defining themes of the programming are situated on the event horizon of the existence of the individual and society, expressed through art in ways that are as unusual as they are transnational. As a result, audiences are treated to a modern-day arts salon of a highly entertaining kind. The REAKTOR is a showcase, workshop, initiator, principal, and producer, all rolled into one. The highest of artistic aspirations and, consequently, critical scrutiny, exploration, enjoyment and aesthetics complement one another at the REAKTOR. Audiences are invited to consider a change of perspective through an entertaining mix of autonomous positions, sensory experiences, and surprising crossovers. Both the programming and the presentation are designed to enable audiences to gain their own personal and individual insights into the featured works.

masc foundation 39 dada are an artist group (Roland Schütz – Kurt Mayr – Richard Schütz – Arno Schmid †2016) which works intensively, since its opening in June 1999, on the integration of fine arts and their various expressions. Our artist run spaces were located vis a vis at grundsteingasse. We were founded as artistic counterparts in this street in Vienna Ottakring. Since the death of Arno Schmid (39dada) in June 2016 the art project is continued by masc foundation. For a long time, the Brunnenviertel, the area around the Viennese Brunnenmarkt in the 16th district, has been an ideal place of work and living for many artists. The artists of our association have come together here to find common possibilities of artistic expression and presentation. The advantages of the area are innumerable: the cosmopolitan social climate, the successful, multicultural mutual stimulation of the most varied cultures represent an ideal nurturing ground for the art, which always also intends to explore the human being in its expressions, desires, hopes and capabilities. Many members have lived and worked in this area for a long time. A dense network of social contacts and mutual support has been created in this way, which […]

HINTERLAND is an independent art space and platform dedicated to the promotion of intercultural and interdisciplinary projects with emerging and established artists from the Middle East with a focus on Iran. HINTERLAND is an international meeting point where social, cultural, political, creative and other relevant contemporary topics are discussed and put into practice. The world is changing: social and cultural changes re-organize our lives. The uprisings in the Middle East have brought it into focus as a troubled area. But at the same time, lots of interesting art is coming out of these countries. Underground art scenes in the big cities are becoming bigger and more visible at large contemporary art fairs and important biennales – for example in the Persian Gulf region. In the past, Orient and Occident influenced each other in cultural, artistic and scientific ways – this mutual fascination still exists and should be expanded further. HINTERLAND wants to use this fascination, wants to set its sights on intercultural understanding, international cooperations and exchange. HINTERLAND wants to act as an intermediary for establishing international cultural dialogue: to build bridges that will allow insights into the artistic and creative scene in this mostly unknown region – an exchange […]

flat1 was founded 2008 by the artists karin maria pfeifer and sula zimmerberger. Based in Vienna, flat1 presents various thematic group shows with generally three to five participating artists. The focus of flat1 is on contemporary fine arts. Interdisciplinary fringe events such as live music, DJ-lines and performances are work in progress. The chief aim of flat1 is to support the creative exchange between inter/national artists who share similar thematic and/or artistic approaches and might not have met otherwise. In the independent environment of flat1 they are given the opportunity to communicate and create dynamic networks, such as programs devised by its two founders Karin Maria Pfeifer and Sula Zimmerberger.
