Kotti-Shop: The Kotti-Shop is an experimental non-profit art and project space, which has been located on the ground floor of the Neue Kreuzberger Zentrum, directly at Kottbusser Tor, since 2008. For ten years now, it has been a platform for Berlin-based and international artists to play and experiment. Exhibitions take place regularly in the Kotti-Shop, as well as performances, zine and book launches, experimental readings, concerts and film screenings. Over the years, events series have also become established in the Kotti-Shop, such as the “Sentimental Punk” format, where, every month since 2015, a compilation of films by experimental filmmakers has been shown, reinterpreted by two sound artists through improvisation. In addition to its distinctive events culture, the Kotti-Shop regularly collaborates with other art and cultural institutions and festivals, and makes its premises available for this purpose. In the past, this has included the drawing festival Big Draw (2012/2013), the House of World Cultures (Wir wohnen, wie wir wollen/We decide how we reside, 2015) and the radio project “Kotti.FM” (2016), in which the Kotti-Shop, together with the artist’s radio reboot.FM, Wassertormedien, Wearebornfree and WestGermany continuously broadcast on one frequency for one month. The Kotti-Shop also provides a platform for art projects […]

SOMA is an independent contemporary art and culture space and initiative encourages collaborations among networks between cultural professionals and artists and academics and social activists from all over the world with the larger aim of supporting sustained dialogue. SOMA means Moon rays in the oldest language Sanskrit, the world of Moon is not as bright as it naturally should be, it is rather directed as the shadow of the Sun. The art practices and themes lay under the moon side – women, non-west, less-told stories, issues from less-mentioned regions are SOMA’s main interest to showcase, yet this founding concept doesn’t imply that it stands for any established doctrines or ideologies. SOMA defines itself as a platform where the true, mindful dialogue begins by presenting the art works strongly connected with the oldest question and matter of human being Who we are, Where we are, Where is our soul now. SOMA believes the open-warm-heart-feeling tactic will lead to its vision rather than the cold-systemized-think way. The not-for-profit art-socio space SOMA is located in multicultural Kiez, Kreuzberg, Berlin, was founded in 2014 by the journalist and artist Nabi Nara. In 2015, SOMA presented within ONS program of the Netzwerk freier Berliner Projekträume […]

The Agora Collective – Berlin-based Center for Contemporary Practices – was originally founded in 2011 by a multidisciplinary team as an independent project space in Berlin. Since then, Agora expands its mission to be a place to conceive and experiment with models of working together; providing stable spaces for artists to engage within collaborative and community-based practices. In 2017, the project has been totally relocated to the former Kindl-Brauerei Area in Rollbergstrasse / Am Südhaus, being proudly part of the “Vollgutlage”, a 38.000 sq. meters area acquired by the Swiss Foundation Edith Maryon. This location in the heart of Neukölln, has been secured for initiatives devoted to social, ecological, cultural and artistic projects. Under this unique new stage, Agora´s current facilities of 1100 sq. meters basement space are being developed to be an ongoing experimental center for artistic production and presentation. This includes: exhibition and event programs, month-long workshop projects, a contemporary dance platform, studios for artists, community driven activities and artistic residency opportunities. The Agora team is devoted to create cross-disciplinary models of cultural and educational production expressed in a diverse, inclusive program of artistic projects and events that deals with relevant questions of nowadays. TOOLBOX is an independent cooperative project of artists, organizing exhibitions to advance international exchange in respect to contemporary art and artistic positions. Openings are every last Friday of the month; the exhibitions present contemporary art in its manifold forms. The artist members of TOOLBOX conceive art as a tool for reflecting on the present age and art as having an impact on or even creating the social world. TOOLBOX has its focus on showing Finnish contemporary art in Berlin and presenting juxtapositions of Finnish next to German artistic views on relevant topics like, for example, ideologies, limits of perception, the significance of emotions, philosophical or political theory or human patterns of making world intelligible. TOOLBOX is a member of Kolonie Wedding, an association of about 30 art project spaces in Soldiner Kiez in Berlin-Wedding. On every last Friday of the month project spaces jointly open their doors for visitors. Information about openings and guided tours to the art spaces you can find here: www.koloniewedding.de

The Institut für Alles Mögliche is an artistic project that, by using experimental means, sets about questioning, scrutinising and probing the institutionalisation and presentation of contemporary art. To this end project spaces are opened, events developed and various artistic practices tried out. These, mostly playful experiments deal with interrogations of the ‘art space’, the operatings of the ‘project space’ and ‘exhibiting’ often in an ironic manner. The central concept is to develop spaces of possibility in which exchange and experiences can take place and space for artistic activity can come in to being. The project can be understood as an organism, as an artistic attempt to find niches and to implant a non-commercial program into the commercial structure of the municipal sphere. It is intended to formulate a notion, a proposal, an approach on how artistic collaborations, collective learning and cohabitation can be constructed. The project tries to create an alternative, which opposes the economic utilisation of art, the artistic pressure to produce and increasing standardisation. Projects that are realized within the Institut are non–commercial and not market-orientated. We place great value on artistic practices and forms of expression that take place beyond art fairs and galleries. During our […]

“Axel Obiger” opened in September 2009 at Brunnenstraße 29 in Berlin Mitte as space for contemporary art. In addition to the 10 double- shows and 2 curated group shows a year, Axel Obiger presents a supporting program of performances, readings, discussions and artist talks. One key aspect is the collaboration with guest artists, which are staged in a open form of dialog with one artist from the gallery. In this manner the several artistic context and ways to work are elucidated in order to intensify the exchange between different positions. Axel Obiger is tracing scientific discourses in our group shows and open-ended experiments – issues f.e.: Burn Out, sociological icons in body and language, consumption, authorship and identity. Axel Obiger exclusively shows contemporary work.

HilbertRaum is an independent, non-commercial, artist-run project space. It opened in January 2015 in the middle of Reuterkiez in Berlin-Neukölln. Behind HilbertRaum is a group of 17 Berlin-based artists, who take turns curating and organizing two-week exhibitions throughout the entire year. Projects incorporate a broad range of painting, photography, sculpture, video, installation and performance. HilbertRaum is named after the infinitely dimensioned Hilbert space, a concept developed by the mathematician David Hilbert. To us, it represents an open, undetermined and evolving structure of self-organization with the expectation of the unexpected. ArtConnect is a global community that celebrates and supports arts & culture Our Story 10 years ago, ArtConnect began as a local Berlin art blog, focused on helping new artists navigate the art world and meet new people in Berlin. Today, ArtConnect is one of the world’s largest online communities of art and art professionals. A place to connect with other artists, collectors, curators and galleries. Our mission is to democratize the art world. We envision a space where artists are able to build their own online fan base, as a way to shift the power balance from the “ gatekeepers” to the creators. By putting the power in the hands of the artists, we will remove the high barrier of entry, to allow the art world to become a more accessible, inclusive and engaging place for newcomers and veterans alike.Be part of a community that is purpose-built to empower artists. If we can work together, we can create a new community of art culture that will help everyone understand the essential contribution that the arts make to our lives. Join the revolution

SCOTTY was founded in 2006. Today, the artist-run project space is located in Kreuzberg, Oranienstrasse and organized by 13 artists. In the house with the smallest floor space in Kreuzberg Scotty provides an open platform for its member artists and curators as well as for guests, offering the greatest possible freedom while exploiting group potential to a maximum. Intermedia and interdisciplinary solo and group exhibitions are shown at regular intervals, and performances and film evenings are organized. The focus is on contemporary social and cultural-political issues. SCOTTY operates independent of the market – it is selfautonomy determined and non-hierarchical. Above and beyond the work in this space in Berlin-Kreuzberg , the members of SCOTTY initiate and organize supra-regional and international cooperation with other similar project spaces, strengthening the position of artists working autonomously through nationwide visibility and networking. Despite the members‘ pronounced individuality, they share a desire to create new opportunities for artistic actions and ideas. The vitality of SCOTTY arises from the consistent, self-determined implementation of democratic agreement among members during the planning and realization of projects.
