Artist-Run Initiatives

  Artopus collective is a group of 13 interdisciplinary artists based in Tel Aviv, Israel. We share a studio space, produce exhibitions, workshops, lectures and cultural events within that space. Artopus aims to invite the public to explore their own creativity and get to know the local artists working in their midst.  

  This Delray Beach CRA rehabilitated warehouse located on Artist Alley in the Pineapple Grove district is an Arts Incubator space for artist residencies, arts education, community-based arts projects, as well as exhibitions, events and talks focused on Contemporary Art. The Arts Warehouse provides developmental programs & assistance to visual artists locally, nationally and internationally. Resident & Affiliate Artist have 24 hour facility access.  

  Ergastule is an Artist-run space founded by ten artists in 2008. Its goal is to promote contemporary art pooling competencies and tools of its members to create and show art-works and editions in its studios in Nancy (FR) as well as off-site temporary group shows. Ergastule invites artists to realize their projects by bringing their ideas and learning new skills. The organization’s uniqueness is based on shared competences, each artist learning from the others. The association is interested by traditional as technical know-hows to serve contemporary art’s research. Ergastule aims to bring about a situation conducive to novelty. Competences: Shaping, casting & edition: polyester resins, ceramics, blown glass and cast glass, silicones elastomers, latex, plaster, wax, metals Graphism: Paper publishing, books, photo-engraving, photopolymer, press, intaglio, linocut Digital: numerical modeling, synthetic imagery, animation, 3D-numerising, 3D-printing, 3 axes milling etc.

Phoenix Athens is a non-profit art gallery and residency in Athens that provides workshops and opportunities for local and international creatives to develop and showcase their practice in Greece. As a venue for art appreciation and education, Phoenix Athens also explores the innovative ways in which artists, thinkers and designers contribute to the well-being of societies and help to regenerate hope in communities. We provide local and international creatives to come and develop their professional practice within the dynamic community of Neapoli-Exarcheia in Athens through our residency program: Villa Exarcheia. We review residency applications to this program on an ongoing basis, and welcome proposals for collectives and academics to live, work and stay in this wonderful city. As both an artist and the director of Phoenix Athens, I am interested in collaborating with artists, designers and other members of the The Artist-Run Alliance who share a vital interest in transforming and benefitting societies through art and design.   Berlinskej Model is a non-profit gallery based in art district Holešovice, Prague, Czech Republic. Berlinskej Model has been founded in 2011 and it’s known as a meeting point for the current art scene, crossing borders of the local district, genres and generations. The gallery is also organizing workshops, talks, discussion panels, concerts and regularly issuing art magazine RAJON. Berlinskej Model mainly focuses on contemporary art overlapping in political and social involved activism. Berlinskej Model runs exhibitions once per week, presenting every new artist on Wednesdays only. The show is on just for one night only, so it’s an opening and a closing ceremony in one, including a meal cooked by the exhibiting artist.  

[gP] is an artist collective living and working from Lincoln, UK. Promoting exchange with wider artist led initiatives nationally and internationally [gP] seeks to stimulate a critical discourse, and sustain an engaged visual arts culture in the city through the programming of exhibitions, events and workshops. ​ With an emphasis on a fluid and experimental approach, gP encourages a diverse range of artistic practices that are developed collectively. Within the core group of approximately 10 artists there are on-going collaborations with more specific interests such as Curio, Mulch, Angry Gang, GAST, Reel and KAC which extend into the wider artistic community, incorporating contributions from practitioners in other locales. This collaborative ethos is clearly demonstrated through our workshop practice too; continuing to encourage collective exploration of creative subjects, blurring the line between workshop facilitators and workshop attendees.  

  THE BIENNIAL LAM 360° (Land Art Mongolia | acronym LAM) is a biennial art festival located in Mongolia. LAM focuses on Land Art as a form of spatial visualization of the relations between nature, culture and social policies. It strongly promotes freedom of expression in joining people and institutions from all sectors of Mongolian society by meshing their respective backgrounds and perspectives through collaboration and networking actions of regional and global scope. By doing so, the organization would like to incite an advanced discourse on cultural and social policy which will take up environmental and social sustainability with a strong emphasis on the most vulnerable sectors of society in Mongolia (such as: nomadic people | ethnic minorities | non-commercial cultural organizations and youth) in the broader perspective of cultural transformation in Central Asia. MNG 360° БАЙГАЛИЙН УРЛАГ МОНГОЛ is an Ulaanbaatar based independent, non-profit, contemporary art organization (NGO) with the purpose of raising awareness for issues as sustainability, nomadic culture, ecological decentralization and democracy by means of contemporary art as an impulse generator for civil society in Mongolia, with a main mission of promoting and realizing the Biennial Land Art Mongolia.

PARSE NOLA is a curatorial and research-based residency and art program that serves as a platform for critical dialogue about contemporary art. This program hosts three to five visiting curators, writers, and artists annually. During extended stays in the city, residents are encouraged to engage in studio visits with local artists, conduct research in the area, and utilize PARSE’s resources to experiment with the boundaries and possibilities of curatorial and artistic practice. ​PARSE NOLA is a 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization.

I started painting early, I do not remember age, but discovering as a child distant drawings and scribbles on the walls of my parents’ workshop. Then, I was drawing for hours on my parents’ sewing machines while they worked. I did it for pleasure and because my weak health did not allow me to run around with other children. Then they sent me to a teacher and I met the oil painting, the models, and the museums and galleries, as well as the concerts, since it was part of my teacher’s demands. As a teenager I embarked on painting as an adventure, which led me to discover other active artists, to live together in the San Telmo Fair. The Constructivism was a solid foundation for walking the path of Painting, giving a solid approach towards mural painting & Applied Art. With the decades this form of work received new names as Urban Art, and many times in fusion with graffiti artists. The Kulturdrogerie association, located in a former drugstore on Gentzgasse 86-88 in Vienna’s 18th district, Währing, makes studio space, production space, and exhibition and presentation area available to selected, invited artists. The association was founded in 2005 by sculptors Markus Hiesleitner and Franz Tišek. Kulturdrogerie is an experimental art space that functions as an ideational testing ground, and provides artists with support and space that they otherwise would not have at their disposal to realize their projects. The Kulturdrogerie thus views its purpose as a place of production and exhibition for contemporary young art.  

  U10 Art Space is an independent artist-run space dedicated to supporting contemporary art founded in 2012 in Belgrade. It was founded with the purpose to be a platform where young local artists would be shown. By collaborating with similar spaces and initiatives, U10 Art Space actively works on creating a culture of artistic education, debate and exchange between artists, curators, art theoreticians, writers and the wider public. The main focus of the program is to create solo and group shows presenting mainly young artists from Serbia. A few slots per year are dedicated to international projects whose concept is aimed at creating active exchange and collaborating with local artists; followed by presenting mid-career artists. An integral part of the program includes events such as: exhibition guidings by artists and curators, performances, sound and music performances, discussions and panels as well as parallel events outside of the space itself and abroad. U10 Art Space is run by seven artists and an art historian: Lidija Delić, Nina Ivanović, Sava Knežević, Isidora Krstić, Iva Kuzmanović, Nemanja Nikolić, Marija Šević and Sanda Kalebić

  Selected by Artslant Magazine as one of Berlin’s most interesting non-profit art spaces, SomoS finds meaning in a pragmatic innovative hybrid of art-presentation, production, education and reflection that engages with, and celebrates an ever-changing community; living and working together in a multi-generational, multi-cultural setting. Organizing an Artist-in-Residency program and an ambitious exhibition and event schedule, SomoS closely works with artists, organizers and curators to realize their projects. SomoS’ mission is to create an international open framework for innovative arts and creative cooperation.  

Visual Artist Unit is a voluntary run, artist-led art collective. Set up in 2014 by 8 graduates from Gray’s School of Art (Aberdeen) and Duncan of Jordanstone (Dundee), VAU commits itself to the dual aims of supporting early-career artists based in Scotland and improving public engagement and access to contemporary art to wider public audiences. Graduate, early-career and emerging artists can join VAU’s Artist Membership programme, which aims to provide a wide-ranging support for artists to develop and sustain their practices in day to day life. VAU runs a yearly public engagement programme, hosting a range of exciting and innovative exhibitions, workshops, talks, commissions and events across Scotland which our members are invited to participate in for professional development experiences. These activities aim to build bridges between artists and the public, helping to improve access and engagement in contemporary art for all.

ITSLIQUID GROUP is proud to announce the CALL FOR ARTISTS for SURFACES FESTIVAL, that will be presented in Venice from 26-27th May 2018 to 25th November 2018 at THE ROOM Contemporary Art Space, Palazzo Ca’ Zanardi and other prestigious venues and historical buildings, during the same period of the BIENNALE ARCHITETTURA 2018 – 16th International Architecture Exhibition. SURFACES FESTIVAL consists of 3 main exhibitions focused on different themes: BODIES (May 26 – July 12, 2018), PLACES (July 27 – September 13, 2018), and SPACES (September 28 – November 25, 2018); an Experimental division dedicated to video-art and performing art and the Venice Architecture Academy. The festival analyzes the idea of human and urban places, how people live them and how they are modified in contemporary society. Every human being lives in a world in which surfaces shape their attitudes and behaviors, limiting freedom and creating a sense of alienation. We imagine a world of “liquid bodies and cities“, where differences create new possibilities, developing new structures, phisical, intellectual and spiritual. Vision, Mission, Mandate and Values ​​of Regart, Center for Contemporary Art Artists Vision Established in Lévis since 1986, the artist-run-centre Regart intends to ensure a dynamic presence in today’s visual art with audiences in Chaudière-Appalaches and Québec territories. Through original promotion and diffusion interventions, Regart works to develop and promote the practices of professional artists from the regional, national and international scenes, while maintaining privileged ties with the community. Mission On the artistic front, Regart is interested in the hybridization of forms of expression, the encounter and the mixture of practices. Thus, it encourages the merging of visual arts with other disciplines, or even other modes of apprehension of contemporary culture. By integrating this approach to hybridization, both in creative processes and in exhibition presentation contexts, Regart opens up to represent a diversity of perspectives that differ from the usual contextualities of diffusion.
