Córtex Frontal is an AIR (Artist-In-Residence) programme hosted by Cortexcult-Associação Cultural, a non profit organisation located in the peaceful town of Arraiolos, in Alentejo region, Portugal.

We welcome professional visual artists, writers, musicians, researchers and workgroups in search of time and space to reflect, discuss and create.
Our mission is to promote and develop cultural projects, establishing a lively dialogue between artists from various disciplines.

Call for applications is open year round for residency proposals in 2024, for periods from 4 weeks to 3 months.

The Artist-In-Residence programme aims to bring together artists from different countries and disciplines for a concentrated period.

There are two ways of being a resident artist at Córtex Frontal:
1 Annual grants for Portuguese and international artists. Open calls will be announced in our website.
2 By spontaneus application: Call open year round (fee required).

Residency structure

We offer a general structure to the resident artist that might vary according to each project:

Regular follow up of the projects;
Portfolio presentations;
Networking and support with local and regional resources;
Field trips to the natural, historical and industrial heritage of the region;
Resident artist lectures in schools and university;
Thematic workshops;
Open studio.

Some of the projects and works produced in residency are selected and promoted in mid or long-term exhibition projects.

Workgroups
Workgroups in residence (up to 15 people) for short, mid or long term are welcome.
Thematic residencies, seminars, masterclasses and conferences, with or without accommodation, can be organised.  Groups can occupy the whole house if noticed in advanced.
