  Kunstverein Familie Montez e. V. is an official art association/artspace/collective which exhibits contemporary independent art, based in Frankfurt am Main. Founded in 2007 by Mirek Macke and Anja Czioska at the Städelhofes, the „Lola Montez“ , has had at times a nomadic existence, but always a fixture of the Frankfurt independent off space scene, it now resides (since 2014) under the Honsellbrücke, in two newly renovated arches of the bridge, directly on the River Main and Osthafen. Kunstverein Familie Montez organizes group and solo shows, talks, book presentations, performances, film screenings, summer schools and music events, and since summer 2018 houses a Hermann Nitsch Archive plus documentation of Contemporary Performance artists that have been invited to the Micro Residency programme.  

Raw Art Foundation is an independent arts collective based in Frankfurt am Main for untrained, autodidactic artists, supporting collaborative creative processes. Studio 323 AtelierFrankfurt  

Modern Clay is a studio project run by Mark Essen it provides a studio facility for the production of ceramics. It is accessible for artists and encouraged that the studio is available to be used by local community groups, artist educational projects and charitable groups. The studio is a resource for artists to produce their own work while developing a new programme of artistic opportunities for West Midlands artists. ART RESIDENCY & EDUCATION FOR ARTISTS Snehta is a non-for-profit organisation that promotes and facilitates local and international artists through its residency, exhibitions and educational programmes in Kypseli, Athens. For the residency artists are selected through an open call who then spend two months researching in Athens under the guidance of the residency team and an established Athens based curator. Snehta also organizes a series of exhibitions and talks in response to topics that critically engage with Athens’ unique identity as a historical and social center. Alongside its art residency Snehta offers burgeoning educational programmes offering professional mentoring and technical knowledge to emerging artists who want to excel in their artistic practice. The programme is staffed by established Athens based artists with a strong and living artistic practice. ​ SNEHTA – ATHENS IN REVERSE Snehta stands for the name of the City of Athens written in reverse.   Zaratan – Arte Contemporânea is a not-for-profit space and an organization founded by artists in Lisbon city center in November 2014. Zaratan is a creation, production and promotion structure for contemporary art and a space of reflection and listening. In order to stimulate creativity and contribute to generate valid cultural processes, Zaratan has developed so far a heterogeneous and mostly free of charge agenda of events, that parallel to the regular schedule of exhibitions, presents video-projections, concerts, talks by artists, presentations and performances. Zaratan defends an interdisciplinary attitude and aims to promote a deeper comprehension of the artistic languages of the present with an independent structure.  

WPA supports artist-driven projects, advocacy, and dialogue so that artists can live, work and flourish.  WPA invites artists to conceive of programs that showcase the work or ideas of other artists (or creative thinkers, scholars, activists, etc.) and then supports them with money, introductions/connections, idea-development, planning & production, communications, marketing and promotion. In our view, artist-driven programming combines the best of two existing models—“artist-run” and “artist-centered”. It is closer in intent to the former than the latter because artists are curating everything—exhibitions, performances, talks, workshops, screenings, platforms, etc. Yet it provides a degree of professional support and organizational stability that an “artist-run” organization might not.

  Julio Artist-run Space is an independent project specialized in the production, distribution and commercialization of contemporary art propositions, founded by the artists Maria Ibanez Lago and Constanza Piaggio. Julio has been running since 2016 in the Belleville-Ménilmontant neighborhood in Paris, hosting exhibitions called “Assemblage #”, which bring together two to three artists for one month, as well as specific presentations (performances, book presentations, conferences, etc.). It connects Argentinian and international artists generating links between consummate and emerging artists, from diverse generations and mediums.  

GlogauAIR GlogauAIR is an art space and residency in a historic building in Kreuzberg open to new ideas and interchange GlogauAIR is a non-profit organization founded in 2006 by the artist Chema Alvargonzález with the intention to create a meeting point between artists from all disciplines to work in collaboration, expanding their practice in terms of materials, formats and style. Residency GlogauAIR offers the use of a studio space in a superb location in Berlin. There are 13 studios distributed over 3 floors. Artists from all over the world and in almost any discipline stay at GlogauAIR for three or six months to develop their artistic project. Project Space The project space is the perfect venue for all sorts of events like workshops, classes, trainings, film screening, lectures, photo or film shootings, and exhibitions.   ada is… ein Projekt zur künstlerischen Zwischennutzung, welches ausgehend von den lokalen Gegebenheiten versucht KünstlerInnen zur Auseinandersetzung dieser conditio humana einzuladen, um dahingehend auch die eigene Rolle in der Gesellschaft zu hinterfragen. „Die einzige Konstante – ist die Transformation“ Dazu werden dort regelmäßige Präsentationen von unterschiedlichen Positionen der Gegenwartskunst stattfinden. Der Fokus ist eine breit gefächerte Präsentation (Malerei, Bildhauerei, Performance, Medienkunst etc.) von Kunst im Wechselspiel mit der Örtlichkeit. Ziel ist die Schaffung einer sich prozesshaft transformierenden Ausstellung, mit jeweils in situ entstehender Kunst, die in Symbiose mit dem Raum geschieht. Ein Umgang mit der Umgebung, eine Herausforderung an das Schaffen selbst – Ephemera und das du.   GAP Is a membership based international collaborative of Mixed-media Artists whose active participants number 53 members working in 12 countries, depending on the project. Having roots initially in web based activity beginning in 2012 (post card and correspondence art projects such as KNEE(jerk) Fragmentation Project). GLOBAL ART PROJECT has generated numerous workshops, exhibitions and collaborative studio experiences in Venice, Lecce and Treviso Italy, Mazatlan, Mexico, Dakar, Senegal, Ghent, Belgium, The Netherlands, North Carolina, New York, Minneapolis, MN, San Francisco, Mill Valley, Benicia, Sausalito and Novato, California. Our work reflects individual, personal and global concerns by virtue of intention. ComPeung is not only the 1st independent AiR program in Thailand, but also the longest ongoing program since 2007. We have hosted over 100 artists in a wide variety of disciplines from around the world. Hidden behind a line of teak trees near public ponds, the ComPeung site began as just a piece of empty farmland without any facilities. Now after over 10 years of sculpting this micro community from scratch–planting all the trees, bringing in the road, water, and electricity, and building the houses–with the help of resident artists, our friends and family ComPeung has become a peaceful garden oasis. As an evolving art project, ComPeung encourages artists to explore and discover – not only new ideas, techniques, and networks, but also themselves as human beings though the process of creative activities and everyday living. ComPeung aims to be an open space for dialogues, encouraging the exchange of ideas and experiments, and exploring the interdependence between art, artists and society. VIDEOART CENTER Tokyo/VCT was founded in 2001 as an association dedicated to videoart and other time based arts in Japan. The aim of VCT is to form an international alternative network for those arts and develop the situation. VCT is managed independently as a Non-Profit Organization by videoartists and the staffs who consider it’s necessary to establish a critical role of the videoart of the present against the society of spectacle. As recent activities, VCT took part in “50th Anniversary of Video Art / Les Instant Video2013” (2013, Marseiile, France), and worked on a documentary video project with oral history of early video artists in Japan, “Kikai de Mirukoto=Eye Machine/To See by Chance -the Pioneers of Japanese Videoarts-“(2012, 82min.), series of screening event; “Video Reflexive” (2014-2016) included “Ko NAKAJIMA Video Vicissitudes”(2014, UPLINK, Tokyo). VCT focused on the open air video art show in urban spaces, as “Video Art Promenade in ASAGAYA/ Wall to Wall”(2015, Tokyo), “Video Art Promenade in Kagurazaka”(2015, Tokyo).  

BUREAU of CHANGE is an education-centric lab for real art practice in New Orleans. We create, curate and exhibit socially and politically engaged work. BUREAU of CHANGE was founded by Margot Herster with a group of her former students and recent graduates from Louisiana State University. Originating out of dissatisfaction with higher education, particularly in arts and media, BUREAU developed into a new school in the form of an atelier-style studio.  A diverse group—established artists and designers, paid student apprentices and young artists, scholars and community experts, and the public—interact to create. Our objectives are influenced by the Works Progress Administration’s Federal Art Project implemented during the Great Depression. We harken a a lost but not forgotten era when the government stimulated jobs in the arts by employing artists to create public works and subsidizing community education centers that offered training in arts skills applicable to industrial jobs of the time. Our process commissions artists and non-artists to collaborate on creative works aimed at inciting institutional change while studying social technology, digital media theory, interdisciplinary research and artistic production. Spazio Y is a group which has dedicated itself for years to research and experimentation in contemporary art.  

  AIM (Artists’ Initiatives’ Meetings) is an international artist-run network of artist-run initiatives. AIM was established in 2010 in order to create a common platform to share experiences and knowledge and to increase visibility of the artist-run art scene. AIM’s programme consists of meetings, conferences and exhibitions, and stimulates mobility and new collaborations for artists and professionals in the art field. We have identified the need for a common platform and begun building a world-wide network of artists’ initiatives. There is a great need to increase visibility and accessibility for the organisations themselves, for artists and professionals in the art field, and for a broader public. Youkobo Art Space manages an Artist-In-Residence Program (AIR) providing accommodation and studio space to artists for a set period of time, and a non-profit studio and gallery for creating and the presentation of new work by Tokyo-based artists, while also promoting community engagement through art and culture. As a ‘studio (‘kobo’) for ‘you’ (‘you’ in Youkobo meaning ‘play’ in Japanese), Youkobo aims to create a space which gives many people the opportunity to experience art and culture on a more familiar level by supporting the autonomous activities of artists. To date, over 300 overseas artists from 40 countries have been welcomed to Youkobo, and exhibitions of over 150 Japan-based artists have been held in what has become a place for rich cultural exchange. c3 is an artist-led contemporary art space, located at the Abbotsford Convent arts and culture precinct in Narrm/Melbourne. Established in 2008, the gallery supports open, ambitious (or quiet), personal and critical approaches towards making and experiencing contemporary art. Risk, experimentation and direct audience engagement are encouraged. Central to c3 is the development of professional practice skills, mentorship and opportunities for artists/curators, and a focus on connecting critical practice with a large, diverse audience. The six-room gallery is housed in the main Convent building facing expansive gardens, Birrarung (the Yarra river) and adjacent bush parkland within its inner city location. The site has a multi-layered and complex continuing historical journey: a meeting point for the Wurundjeri and Kulin Nation peoples, settler occupation, a convent, a university, a large multi-practice creative precinct. The gallery has a reciprocal relationship with community, in that it simultaneously builds and is built by community, allowing for an open, nimble and active curatorial vision.
