DISTANCE – Lacuna Festivals 2021

For this year’s Lacuna Festivals the theme is ‘Distance’, a suggestion from our creative community and one that feels globally appropriate for the current context of the year – DISTANCE

The International Contemporary Art Festivals for Fuerteventura and Lanzarote will again (as in 2020) take place as LACUNA FESTIVALS, but over distance (due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic), using a range of online platforms including YouTube, ArtSteps, Flickr, Facebook and Instagram. There will be no physical festival or events this year and instead all exhibitions and events will take place digitally. This is just one of many reasons why the theme of DISTANCE felt so appropriate for this year.
TO SUBMIT YOUR WORK FOR THE FESTIVAL – There are NO submission fees or other hidden charges, it is totally FREE to apply. We accept all submissions that relate to the festival theme. All creatives, artists, makers, designers, performers, writers, musicians etc are welcome to apply.
The deadline for applications is 31st March 2021.
How will you interpret the theme DISTANCE?

Possible interpretations of the theme include (but are not limited to) : measurements of distance, the distance between two points, two people or two objects, barriers created by distance, overcoming barriers created by distance, ways of communicating from a distance, journeys, travel, modes of transport, migration of birds, insects and animals, psychological distance, physical distance, emotional distance, legal and illegal immigration, geodesic distance, meridian arcs, circular distance, Manhattan distance, relative distance, edit distance, chessboard distance, cosmology and the expansion of the universe, construal level theory, distance between experienced realities and/or individual perceptions, milestones and markers, signposts and cairns and so on.

Artists can interpret the theme in any way that they choose.

The festival runs from 1 July 2021 to 31 July
