The Collectivists – Group Portrait

Curator: Orly Hoffman

Opening: Thursday 29.8 at 20:00, Tel Aviv Artists’ House

The exhibition The Collectivists – Group Portrait presents six Tel Aviv collective galleries under one roof in Tel Aviv Artists’ House. The members of the galleries were invited to carry out a self-curated action, to formulate an index and an ID of sorts that will outline the portrait of its collective activity.

The exhibition features Alfred Gallery, P8 Gallery, Hanina Gallery, Indie Gallery, Benjamin Gallery, and the young Nolobez Gallery, each selected themes and subject matters that represent and reflect their own DNA in different ways.

The gallery artists, who are usually engaged in the administrative and practical operation of the gallery as a space for solo exhibitions and various collaborations with guest artists, were invited to present themselves/their work together as a collective. This brief and task became a driving force that challenged the underlying foundations of each gallery, which for the most part, are not addressed in the interaction and shared artistic creation of all of its members.

The act of coming together, searching for an idea, looking for connections and common references in the works, summoned a process of introspection that wishes to pause, linger, and examine. These set in motion a profound examination of the members’ work, the various associations and representation, and their possible impact on each collective’s agenda, fabric, and unique character.

Participating Alfred Gallery members:
Yael Ben Shalom / Dafna Gazit / Dvir Cohen-Kedar / Adi Levy / Gidi Smilansky / Natalie Feldesman / Shira Kamrad / Talya Raz / Rotem Ritov / Lior Schur
