Juxtapose Art Fair is a new gathering for the artist-run sector, featuring exhibitions, talks, tours, and a one-day conference. The fair will debut in Aarhus, Denmark in June 2021.

As a non-commercial art fair, Juxtapose is not focused on sales. Instead our goal is to celebrate the diversity of the artist-run sector, and to support the artists behind this sector.

The fair will showcase 20-30 artist-run initiatives. By “artist-run initiatives” we mean: projects that are led and organized by visual artists and/or independent curators. Such initiatives are separate from the organizer’s individual artistic practice.

We are interested in all kinds of artist-run initiatives, including artist-run exhibition spaces, artist collectives, independent art publications, online platforms, and other projects that fall outside the walls of museums and commercial galleries. By bringing very different initiatives together in one space, we hope to highlight the unique profile of each project.

The public will be able to learn more about each initiative and the larger artist-run sector through a series of talks, panel debates, and tours to local initiatives here in Aarhus.

Behind the scenes, the initiatives participating in the fair will have many opportunities to meet and learn from other artists. We will consider future directions for the artist-run sector with a one-day conference, co-hosted by Artist-Run Network Europe. Practical knowledge and pressing issues within the industry will be explored in small discussion groups.

Altogether, the goal of Juxtapose Art Fair is to strengthen the artist-run sector. We hope to shine new light on this vital, yet often overlooked, corner of the art world.
